If you’ve ever tried to buy an abaya at 11pm in Dubai summer, you know the problem. The malls are closed, it’s 38°C outside, and you need something modest, breathable, and in 2XL that will arrive before Friday.
For most women in the UAE, that means one of two apps: Amazon.ae or Noon.
But which one actually works for modest fashion? We spent 3 weeks ordering abayas, kaftans, hijabs, and plus-size dresses from both platforms. We tracked delivery times to Dubai Marina, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. We read 200+ customer reviews in Arabic and English. We even returned 3 items on purpose.
This is not sponsored. aleeshawear.ae is not affiliated with Amazon or Noon. This is what we found.
1. Shipping Speed: The 45°C Test
Amazon.ae
In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Amazon’s “Prime” delivery is shockingly fast for modest fashion. Orders placed before 12pm often arrived the same day. Our fastest was a jersey abaya to Business Bay: 6 hours 20 minutes.
To Sharjah and Ajman, expect 1-2 days. The “FREE delivery by tomorrow” badge on modest dresses is usually accurate — if the item is “Fulfilled by Amazon.”
Third-party sellers on Amazon are slower. One kaftan listed as “Ships from UAE” took 5 days from a seller in Ajman. Always check who is shipping.
Noon
Noon Express is Noon’s version of Prime. In our test, Noon Express to Dubai was 1 day consistently. To Abu Dhabi, 1-2 days. No same-day delivery for fashion, even in Dubai.
Where Noon wins: “Noon Minutes” for urgent items. We found basic black hijabs and cotton under-scarves available in 30-45 minutes in Dubai Marina. No abayas or dresses on Noon Minutes yet.
Winner for speed in Dubai/Abu Dhabi: Amazon.ae, if it’s Fulfilled by Amazon.
Winner for urgent basics: Noon Minutes.
2. Return Policies: What Happens When the 2XL Doesn’t Fit
This is where most UAE women get stuck. Sizing charts lie.
Amazon.ae Returns
Policy: 30 days for most clothing. Free returns. You schedule a pickup from your home. The driver scans a QR code, takes the item, and you’re refunded once it hits the warehouse — usually 3-5 days.
Reality for modest fashion: It works, but with conditions.
- The item must be “Fulfilled by Amazon” for easy returns.
- White/beige abayas are often rejected if the hygiene seal is broken.
- Lingerie and under-scarves are final sale.
Our return test: A 3XL abaya that was more like an XL. Scheduled pickup took 2 clicks. Driver came next day. Refund hit our card in 4 days.
Noon Returns
Policy: 15 days for fashion. Free returns. You can drop off at a Noon locker or schedule pickup.
Reality: Noon is stricter. Multiple reviews mention Noon rejecting returns because the item was “tried on.” One Dubai user on Instagram was denied a return for a kaftan because she removed the tags.
Our return test: A dress from Noon’s “Trendyol” store. Pickup was easy. Refund took 7 days. Customer service was slower than Amazon’s chat.
Winner for returns: Amazon.ae. 30 days + home pickup + better approval rate for modest wear.
3. Sizing & Plus-Size 2XL-4XL: The Real Problem
Amazon.ae
Amazon has a “Plus Size” filter that actually works. We found 2XL-4XL abayas from brands like “Hanyimido” and “AFZAN” with detailed charts: bust, hip, length in cm.
Problem: International sellers. A US 2XL is not a UAE 2XL. We ordered a “3XL” kaftan that fit like a Medium. Check reviews for “runs small” comments before buying.
Best part: Amazon’s “Try Before You Buy” is available on some Prime dresses. You order 3 sizes, keep 1, return 2. Not available for most abayas yet.
Noon
Noon’s “Modest Wear” category is huge, especially from Turkish brands like Trendyol and LC Waikiki. Their size charts are usually in Turkish sizes. A Turkish 44 = UAE 16-18 approx.
Problem: No consistent filter for 3XL-4XL. You have to read each product. Noon’s “Sivvi” store has better plus-size options, but many items ship from Saudi Arabia and take 6-9 days.
Winner for 2XL-4XL: Amazon.ae for speed and filtering. Noon for Turkish styles if you can wait.
4. Price & Quality: Under 100 AED vs Over 300 AED
We bought 3 items from each platform:
| Item | Amazon.ae Price | Noon Price | Quality Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic Black Jersey Abaya | 79 AED | 85 AED | Amazon’s was thicker, less sheer |
| Printed Chiffon Kaftan | 129 AED | 119 AED | Noon’s Trendyol had better stitching |
| Plus-Size 3XL Wrap Dress | 143 AED | 155 AED | Both ran small, Amazon refunded faster |
Amazon.ae pattern: More Indian and Chinese sellers. Prices are aggressive. Quality varies wildly. Read reviews with photos.
Noon pattern: More Turkish and Saudi sellers. Slightly higher prices, more consistent stitching. Trendyol and LC Waikiki items are mall-quality.
Hidden cost: Cash on Delivery. Amazon.ae charges 5 AED for COD under 100 AED. Noon charges 6 AED. Use a card to avoid it.
5. What UAE Women Actually Complain About
We scraped 200 public reviews from both apps + UAE Facebook groups. Top complaints:
Amazon.ae
- “Color is different from photo” — 34% of 1-star reviews for abayas
- “Smells like chemicals” — Common with Chinese sellers
- “Seller cancelled after 2 days” — If not Fulfilled by Amazon
Noon
- “Late delivery” — 41% of complaints, especially from Sivvi
- “Poor customer service chat” — Takes 20+ min to reach a human
- “Wrong item sent” — Happens more with cross-border Saudi orders
So Where Should You Buy Modest Fashion Online?
Use Amazon.ae if:
- You live in Dubai/Abu Dhabi and need it tomorrow
- You’re ordering 2XL-4XL and might need to return
- You want “Try Before You Buy” for dresses
- You check “Fulfilled by Amazon” only
Use Noon if:
- You want Turkish brands like Trendyol or LC Waikiki
- You have 3-5 days to wait
- You’re okay with stricter returns
- You need Noon Minutes for hijab emergency
Our rule: Never buy a light-colored abaya or lingerie online from either platform without reading 10+ reviews with photos. In 45°C heat, you can’t afford a see-through mistake.
What’s Next?
Both platforms are improving. Amazon.ae added more UAE-based modest brands in 2025. Noon is pushing “Noon Fashion” with faster UAE warehouse shipping.
The real winner is the UAE woman who checks 3 things before checkout: 1. Who ships it, 2. Review photos, 3. Return policy.
